Patient Requirements: Pre-Treatment Guidelines
To ensure optimal results and a safe experience, please follow these guidelines before your SkinPen® session:
Pause Active Skincare
Avoid retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, and exfoliants for 3–5 days before your appointment to prevent irritation.
Protect Your Skin from the Sun
Stay out of direct sunlight and tanning beds for at least one week prior to treatment to minimize sensitivity.
Check Medications & Supplements
Discontinue blood-thinning agents like aspirin, fish oil, or vitamin E—only if approved by your healthcare provider.
Prep & Communicate
Arrive with clean, makeup-free skin. If you have a history of cold sores, let us know—an antiviral may be recommended.
What to Expect During & After Treatment
SkinPen® Microneedling sessions typically last about 30–60 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation as mild discomfort or a light prickling feeling. We apply a topical numbing cream beforehand to ensure comfort. After treatment, you may experience mild redness, warmth, and sensitivity—similar to a sunburn—which typically subsides within 1–3 days.
You’ll begin to see visible improvements within the first week, with full collagen remodeling continuing over the next several weeks. A series of 3–6 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart is typically recommended for best results.
